This week’s focus was on iconic book Learning Analytics: From Research to Practice (2014). It contains theoretical and research texts from various perspectives. I read the chapter Analytics Through an Institutional Lens: Definition, Theory, Design, and Impact which stretches out the possible use and impact of learning analytics in institutions.
Review n. 3, ISKM57 Reading Seminar: Educational Technology and Learning Society
This week’s reading was in the name of utopia and technology. I chose to read two texts from Andrew Freenberg, American philosopher of technology. Since both, Introduction from Questioning Technology (1999) and Introduction from Between Reason and Experience: Essays in Technology and Modernity (2010), consider the same topic and very similar argumentation, I will comment on them jointly.

This week reading was focused on exploring the options of learning and knowledge analytics in open education. I have read two chapters of the collection: the first one, Social Media: An Integration Guideline for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education provided research findings on use of social media of faculty members and introduced a guideline on implementing social media in the process of learning in higher education, and the second one, Utopian and Dystopian Futures for Learning Technologies set the future prognosis on use of learning technologies.

Over all I really enjoyed reading Luciano Floridi’s The Fourth Revolution. His argumentation throughout the text is clear a convincing, it easily grabs one’s attention. After reading two chapters (2: Space: Infosphere; 4: Self-understanding: The Four Revolutions) I stay motivated to read the whole book, to fill in all the missing parts in the fascinating picture Floridi is painting.
